Satellite Center S.T.A.R. (Students Teaching and Reaching) team member and Hahnville High School senior, Bodie Dufrene was named the STAR Student of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year. A panel of St. Charles Parish Public Schools administration based their selection on his resume of teaching

Super Bowl XLVII: Satellite Center Halftime Performance with Beyonce

Team members from the St. Charles Parish Satellite Center recently participated in several activities relating to New Orleans hosting Super Bowl XLVII. The Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration team members conducted an economic impact analysis by surveying tourists visiting the city during the four days prior to the Super Bowl and contacting local hotels and restaurants. The direct impact of these tourists as well as the indirect impact in relation to hosting the event is projected to bring in over 400 million dollars to the local economy.

Open House Is A Success

The 2013 Satellite Center Open House was a huge success last night. We hosted over 220 visitors who came to take "peek behind the curtains" of the Satellite Center and speak to course facilitators and team members currently enrolled in the courses. Visitors were treated to a look at products from projects completed in each class, a tour of the facilities, and a look into the future projects to be tackled next year.

Animation Workshop

The Digital & Interactive Media courses recently went through an animation boot camp, run by G&G Studios (Growl & Gough), meant to allow team members from both classes the ability to practice the principles of animation, while also learning more about the process. During this four-day workshop experience, team members put in groups and were to bring a movie sound clip to life using stop action animation.

On Thursday, December 6, the Satellite Center teamed up with local agencies to assist them in completing a variety service related tasks. Our team members were sent to the agencies during class time to help wrap gifts, organize and pack non-perishable food items, plant vegetables, and consolidate storage rooms. They worked with the ARC Of St. Charles, River Region Performing Arts Center, Making A Difference Toy & Food Drive, G. Smith Motorsports Christmas Toy & Gift Giveaway, and the Norco Civic Association.
