Satellite Center S.T.A.R. members (Students Teaching and Reaching) team members participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign on October 6th as part of a service learning grant provided by the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsette Brown Foundation. Part of the service learning project was to understand the importance of early literacy skills and learn about emergent readers.
The S.T.A.R. team members visited day care centers, preschools, and elementary schools in and around St. Charles Parish to read the book Llama Llama Red Pajama. By the end of the day Thursday, the S.T.A.R. team members had read to over 800 children.
